I’d never been camping before last weekend. Unless you count a night in a tent in a friend’s backyard when I was ten or sleeping in a cardboard box in a field at a Christian camp when I was twelve. I don’t. Anyway, I’d always avoided going to Camp(us) A Low Hum, because the whole sleeping in a tent thing terrified me. I feel really stupid about that now.
Here are my highlights:
- Dancing to (and _with_ Jim at one point!) Captain Ahab in a gigantic emptied indoor pool. If you get the chance to see these guys, don’t frakin’ hesitate. GO. Wellington: This means TOMORROW NIGHT at Garden.
- A truck set up with karaoke in the back. I did Robyn’s ‘Konichiwa Bitches’ and danced to lots of other people doing songs such as Kate Bush’s ‘Hounds of Love’.
- Petra dressed like a giraffe.
- Lazing in a hammock with T while Tantrums played in the distance and competed for my ear-time with lots of cicadas.
- Discovering new bands to enjoy; Lowtide, Tantrums, Rat vs Possum, The Ocean Floor, Butcher Blades, CTRIX, Wet Wings, etc…
- Sitting under a tree in the shade, while Megalex does his hilarious and lovely freestyle session
- Getting to have actual conversations with people I see at gigs all the time, but don’t really know apart from that.
- Glass Vaults in the pool. Dark, empty pool. Purple and blue lights, LASERS!, hundreds of glowsticks being thrown into the audience (a brief and beautiful sight!). Dancing right up the back above it all.
- Plenty of sitting under trees, really.
- Being ridiculously proud of myself for handling camping with minimal fuss. Gold star for me! I am a dork.
- Good food (noodle salad!) and soy flat whites in the middle of nowhere, thanks Catering Studio.
- Jabies falafel kebabs in Bulls. Best kebabs I’ve had in YEARS.
- Seeing how much T was enjoying himself on his birthday weekend. Aww. <3
- Smiles and kind words with strangers
